The Jewish Federation of Tulsa applauds Governor Kevin Stitt for signing SB991 and SB942 into law—two landmark bills that enshrine civil rights protections for Jewish Oklahomans and adopt a clear legal definition of antisemitism into state law.
With the stroke of a pen, Oklahoma now stands among the strongest states in America when it comes to protecting its Jewish citizens.
“These bills are a statement of principle and courage,” said Joe Roberts, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Tulsa. “They affirm that Jewish life is not only welcome in Oklahoma—it is protected. At a time when antisemitism is rising across the country, our state has chosen to lead with moral clarity. We are deeply grateful to Governor Stitt for his leadership and to Senator Kristen Thompson and Representative Emily Gise for championing this vital legislation.”
SB991 and SB942 codify the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism into Oklahoma law and extend critical civil rights protections to members of the Jewish community facing discrimination in institutions of public education.
The Jewish Federation of Tulsa thanks the Oklahoma Legislature for its overwhelming support and the many advocates and community members who raised their voices to make this victory possible.
“We are proud to live in a state that refuses to normalize antisemitism,” Roberts continued. “What Oklahoma has done here will echo beyond our borders. It sends a message to every Jewish Oklahoman: You are not invisible. You are not alone. And in this state, you are protected.”
